After several years of consistently releasing music under the radar, Chicago-based rapper dugg mason finds his footing on his extended play “DROPS”. Self-produced and engineered in quarantine, DROPS offers critique on chosen-complacency amidst the current political climate as well as reflections on the hardships of self-healing. While numerous contributions from accredited jazz musicians propel the project to new heights (see the distressed vocoder on SOS and the standout trumpet solo that anchors CHANGE) it is mason’s top tier lyricism that somehow makes DROPS both intrinsic and frustrated, defeated yet hopeful.
